"...if and when we find ways to do the things that also help us to feel deeply, fully ourselves, we’ll be even better equipped to deeply and fully love those God has given us the privilege of loving." So very true, Jen! And what an honor to have kept you company via audiobook - thankful that my words are an encouragement 💖
I know you get it, Becky—and thank you so much for letting me know it resonated. I loved listening to your words, and you were SUCH a natural at Audible! 🎧🤩💗
You have such a gift for teasing out our memories as readers as you tell your stories. Thank you for the gift of remembrances and for sharing the ups and downs of the journey - totally relatable content!
Oh Sue, that's so kind of you to say that and it means so much, because that's exactly what I hope to do in sharing memories and moments, past and present. I love nothing more than when it sparks memories for those reading (the comments are always such a joy to follow, as they sort of continue the story?). Such is the power of sharing our stories, and making sacred connections in so doing. Thank you so much for saying this. And also, right back at you! ❤️
OF COURSE!! It's another Bricks and Stitches find, from this summer, so you might be able to still get (or even on sale, maybe?!!). https://www.bricksandstitches.com - Becky, the founder, has a great eye for colour and sourcing mostly Italian, one size (easy, yay!!) dresses and this was one of the less pricey ones (kind of Zara price point, I guess?). Let me know if you check them out/splash out!!! I think you'll love the colours. XOXOXOX
I remember those slides, the heat would burn our bums! and the burlap sacks we put our legs in - the backs of my knees would be dripping with sweat! I didn’t even think backs of knees could drop with sweat! Haha! And I have had a pair of black Birkenstock Madrid slides on my wish list for a while. I have the most senator I’ve feet and my son has slides (like the Adidas rubber ones you put on after you take your baseball cleats off) and they hurt my toes. I don’t know if I can wear them but I love love love my rubber Birkenstock Gizehs. The most comfy sandals ever!! I hope you’ll love your new white ones! Enjoyed this post! I’m coming back to these podcasts. Thank you! ❤️
Kelly, you've taken me right back to the burlap and the burns!! I'd forgotten all about that!! Amazing—and haha re the Madrids! I've got to say, they're SUPER-comfy, and I like the placement of the single strap. Surprisingly not sweaty, either, in plastic (TMI?!). And yes, yes, yes, I'm off to check out the Gizehs ... love all of this, thank you SO much for sharing (and taking me back, too!). XO
Sliding! I loved these photos so much. The captured joy and excitement on your face made me remember my own times of being on a mat sliding and loving it while also secretly hating it because it felt scary. Slide were a place where I learned to overcome fear of the unknown while enjoying the ride. As you point out so well, some of us still find ourselves doing that. Not that there is enjoyment in all you are encountering right now, but you are showing up brave, and you are making sure your dear parents have a measure of enjoyment in their new surroundings.
Slides. Slides for the feet! I love those too. I need a pair of those slides for my feet. I’m always searching for something that slips on easily, and slips off just as easily as I go out water plants, or head up the street to get the mail.
Thanks for the recommendations for Audible. I have let my subscription go, but I think I’ll renew it. I do like listening to books while I putter about or while I walk. Your recommendations intrigue me.
"Slides were a place where I learned to overcome fear of the unknown while enjoying the ride ... some of us still find ourselves doing that," - Oh, Sally! Thank you so much for letting me know how this resonated with you, and for sharing your own experiences. Love this so much. Sidenote: I can definitely recommend the plastic Birkenstocks – although, I've got to say, mine are looking a little less than pristine a couple of weeks on! But they are unbelievably, super-comfortable. 💖XOXO
Jenni thank you so much for listening to (and recommending!) Create Anyway ❤️ I’m obviously a few years behind you in the motherhood department, but I was so encouraged to hear that the message resonated with you. Also, this is random, but I LOVE every single photo in this post. Such a lovely wave of nostalgia in each one.
Oh thank you so much, Ashlee, and not at ALL random! That means so much coming from you with your beautiful photography. 🥹 My dad absolutely loved taking photos when we were growing up, and looking back at the albums only now do I fully appreciate it! 😭💖 (I’m also totally getting the hardback of Create Anyway, for the beautiful photos. And I love that you took them all on your 📷).
I hope that this new home provides peace and contentment for all. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I am grateful for your book recommendations too! And that feeling of the few centimeters lift off the slide will stay with me as I seek to write more about our friend Mary. XO
GAH, Katie, you have just given me goosebumps!! 💙 I cannot WAIT to read your words. And thank you, for such kind words—we're so grateful and are praying it's the right move for my parents, as it's been a tricky few weeks—which mean so much. XOXO
Oh Jen! Those slides - and sliders - makes my heart swell (and my stomach turn when thinking of the wavy slides) I love your writing because it evokes such wonderful memories of my own. Those heady, long 70s summers and arcades and amusement parks. Love it all! Thanks for sharing. xxx
Ahhhh, that makes me so happy, Lisa! We need to talk all things 70s/80s childhood sometime on here! Sending love and memories of summer BBQs, sunbathing in zero factor coconut oil (only me? TERRIBLE!) and recording the Top 40 countdown! Much 💗!!
Oooh, I love that!! And I bet the lipstick was a soft, dusty rose! So beautiful, Christine. Isn't it amazing how just a trio of items can create such a portrait of a person and say so much? Thank you so much for sharing that. Love it.

Can I ask, where is your gorgeous blue and white skirt/dress from?
